Commencement Format

COMMENCEMENT FORMAT

We are pleased to inform you that we will be holding a combination of an in-person and virtual, socially-distant commencement for the Penns Valley Area High School Class of 2020. It will take place in front of the High School on Friday, June 5 with a rain date of Saturday June 6th. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 2:00 p.m. Please see the details below.

Each student will be provided the opportunity to have a maximum of two vehicles of people to witness the event. In order to maintain social distancing, the District is going to utilize the front of the building so that families do not need to exit their vehicles. The students will be scheduled a time to walk across the stage in three-minute intervals. Both vehicles need to arrive together with the student being a passenger in the lead vehicle. Please arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time slot.

Parking lot attendants and cones will direct traffic through the front parking lot. No one is allowed to exit their vehicles while waiting. Anyone exiting their vehicle without permission will be asked to leave the premises without viewing or participating in the event.

Once the vehicle has entered the horseshoe that leads to the front of the building, the graduate will be asked to step out of the vehicle in order to walk up and be recognized. There will be markings on the ground 15 feet from the classmate in front of each student. When the graduate arrives at the stage, his/her name will be read aloud and he/she will walk up, pick up the diploma cover, and pause for a picture at the end of the stage.

Once the graduate has the diploma cover in hand and has had his/her picture taken, he/she will proceed to the auditorium entrance to pick up the actual diploma and packet. The graduate will then return to the vehicle and exit the parking lot.  Photos may be taken after June 7, 2020 on District property should State guidelines permit.

The graduation process will be streamed live online and then posted in a condensed format soon following the event.  The posted version will contain speeches from the class president, valedictorians, and yours truly!

We understand that this is not the ideal graduation ceremony, but we are thankful that we will have the opportunity to congratulate the Class of 2020 in person. We would love to be able to honor the accomplishments of the Class of 2020 and are therefore open to the idea of a celebration/ picnic/ appreciation day for the class. Of course, we cannot plan a date at this time but will do so as soon as social restrictions are lifted.

It’s a Great Day to be a RAM!!
